Whether you’re going to Taste of Country in upstate New York or to Bonnaroo in Tennessee, festival fashion is always a big deal at any music festival. From the perfect boots to take you from stage to stage to cool, breezy accessories that won’t get in your way while you dance, Love Those Boots has you covered with a complete guide to festival fashion — with a Western flair, of course.

  • Choose the perfect bottoms. Whether you feel more comfortable in cutoff shorts or a cool sundress, you’ll want to choose an outfit that’s cool and easy to wear all day (and night) long. Make your own cutoff denim shorts out of some high-waisted vintage jeans from your local thrift store, or invest in a crocheted pair with some boho flair. If you go for a dress, choose something with a longer maxi length or a short hemline that’s easy to move in.
  • Add a layer on top. If you choose a skirt or shorts, add a top that will keep you equally cool. Celebs love the cutout tank top or halter top trend, but if you want something that offers a bit more coverage, you can’t go wrong with a worn-in band T-shirt.

  • …And even more layers on top of that. If you’re in a place that might get chilly at night, layers are key. Top things off with an effortlessly cool denim or leather jacket, or keep the bohemian look going with a long, duster-style sweater that you can easily take off and tuck away.
  • Accessorize with sturdy jewelry. Since this is a music festival, you’ll want to choose jewelry that’s not too delicate or priceless. Think chunky turquoise necklaces, wide bangle-style bracelets or stud earrings.
  • Choose the perfect sunnies. Keep yourself protected from the bright, mid-day sunshine with a great pair of sunglasses. Try a classic wayfarer frame, aviator shades or some round, retro glasses.
  • Keep yourself protected with a wide-brimmed hat. You won’t have much fun if you get a sunburn on the first day of the festival, so be sure to keep yourself shaded from harmful UV rays with a hat (but a stylish one, of course). Try a classic cowboy hat or a boho-style sun hat in a cool straw or other natural material. You can even choose a more embellished hat with turquoise or silver details.

  • Pack your trusty boots. With all of the walking, standing and dancing that you’re sure to do at a music festival, you want to make sure that your feet and ankles stay supported and protected from other concertgoers. For many people, this means a great pair of leather boots that will cover your feet in style. Choose a classic pair of cowboy boots with a high shaft that goes almost to the knee, and go wild with all of the embroidered details or colorful panels that you can find. If you prefer something lower and more minimal, you may also want to wear a pair of roper boots or ankle booties that are just as stylish.
